Skills4Retail at Retail in Detail 2026: Connecting Industry Trends with Education
Our project partner, JA Czech, recently attended Retail in Detail 2026, joining retail professionals and industry experts to explore changing customer expectations and the future of the sector.
The conference provided an opportunity to examine how developments in customer experience, digital technology and shopping behaviour are changing retail, and what these changes mean for education and skills development.
01. Three key takeaways for retail education
Several themes emerged from the conference, highlighting the importance of preparing students and future retail professionals for the realities of a changing industry.
KEY TAKEAWAY 01
Customer experience goes beyond the transaction
Customers increasingly expect convenient, connected experiences across online and physical stores. However, technology alone is not enough. Simplicity, trust and human interaction remain essential to building positive customer relationships.
KEY TAKEAWAY 02
Generation Z is influencing retail
Social media, digital inspiration and new shopping habits are increasingly shaping the customer journey. Understanding these behaviours is becoming an important skill for those entering the retail workforce.
KEY TAKEAWAY 03
AI and data must address real needs
Digital tools offer opportunities to improve retail operations and customer experiences, but their value lies in solving practical problems. Future retail professionals need to understand not only how to use technology, but also when and why to apply it.
02. Bringing industry insights into the classroom
Through Skills4Retail, JA Czech is helping to connect education with the realities of the retail sector.
Participation in events such as Retail in Detail provides valuable insights into the skills employers need and how retail training can respond to changing industry requirements.
Connecting today’s industry developments with tomorrow’s retail workforce.
Skills4Retail aims to equip learners with relevant digital, customer service and business skills, supporting their transition from education into the workplace.
By bringing real-world perspectives into education, the project can help ensure that training remains relevant as the retail sector evolves.
We thank JA Czech for representing Skills4Retail at the conference and sharing these insights with the wider partnership.
