On April 22, 2026, Silesian University in Karviná hosted a lesson observation within the framework of the Skills4Retail (S4R) project, aimed at strengthening the connection between higher education and real-world retail practice. The visit provided an opportunity to observe how S4R learning materials and teaching methods are implemented in a classroom environment.
The cooperation with the university began after one of the Czech project partners introduced the S4R project to a teacher from the institution during a project-related event. This initial contact marked the beginning of a successful collaboration focused on innovative and practice-oriented retail education.
A group of 15 students from Silesian University in Karviná is currently participating in the S4R project. As part of the programme, students are involved in a variety of interactive lessons and training activities focused on topics such as coaching and mentoring, workplace ethics, cultural diversity, and sustainability in the retail environment.
The educational content combines theoretical knowledge with practical examples and real-life case studies, helping students better understand current challenges and trends within the retail sector.
The observed session demonstrated how practice-oriented teaching and current retail topics can significantly enhance student motivation and participation. By combining theoretical concepts with practical examples and industry insights, students gained a better understanding of how their knowledge can be applied in future professional contexts.
Both students and the lecturer highlighted the use of real-life case studies and best practice examples as one of the most valuable aspects of the course. These elements helped make complex topics more accessible, relevant, and engaging, while also encouraging active discussion during the lesson.
For the Czech project partners, the observation represented an important opportunity to witness the positive impact of the S4R project firsthand. The experience confirmed the value of interactive and practice-based learning approaches in preparing students for the evolving retail sector.
